Tongue in cheek one here..

We possibly all suspect that any south of the border commentator is obliged to mention "1966" in any international commentary regardless of who is playing. An often rather tenuous link is required to carry this out. So what link did the Wales v Ukraine commentary chappie use to achieve a "1966" mention around the 47th minute of yesterday's game?

He heard @denismcquadeno.eleven lived in England

PET HATE ! You can't classify "unique" it either is or it isn't. The "so" is completely pointless. Arrrrrgh !

True. I initially had the word “odd” instead of “unique” and forgot to remove it.

Didn’t know that. Knew, as a player, he was a full back who played for a top tier ie Ipswich-league winning side. Always wondered if he hated wingers because they took him  ‘to the cleaners’ eg Finney and Matthews!

He played for Spurs and England. He was manager of Ipswich when they won the First Division title the season after being promoted. He then took over the England job.

Indeed. And when England manager he applied for the Scotland job because it paid more!

Which rock musician wore a West Bromwich Albion scarf on the cover of one of his albums, but when asked to do a benefit concert for the club by the fans, turned them down.

At  the same tournament, two supporters of the losing team committed suicide in the stadium at the end of the final match.

Yes. All three withdrew from the tournament after qualifying.

Turkey and India withdrew due to financial reasons.

For British teams, qualification was based on the Home Nations Championship. The top two teams qualified for the World Cup. Before the Home Nations competition, the Chairman of the SFA, Mr George Graham, announced that Scotland would only travel to Brazil if they won the Home Nations. Scotland finished second and the SFA refused to go to the World Cup.

I thought India withdrew because they weren't allowed to play barefoot?
