Who Are The Strikers, Out There?

Don't think we should panic if we don't get another striker. Last season in the 23 games we played until Lyle Taylor came back we scored something like 32 goals. In the remaining 16 games after he arrived we scored around 16 goals.

thems the facts - roughly

We're minus SoD and Higgy , that's an awful lot of assists and a few goals too out the total. Our striker(s) are going to have to work harder for theIr goals this season.

It's vital we can get the right guy in ASAP.

There's no need to rush into a signing at this point. We've got until the end of August to get the right player in. I honestly think if we can sign up the kind of centre forward we all know we need, the club could go on to achieve something significant this season.

It's a tough situation. The longer you leave it the more players are likely to lower their demands and a player you thought you couldn't previously afford comes into your price range. The reality is a lot of clubs are out there hunting for a centre forward who is a sure thing. We're pretty far down the pecking order for these guys when they're choosing their club. That generally means getting lucky signing an unproven player (could be Taylor, could be Eccleston), toughing it out until someone drops their demands, or taking on a once promising player whose career is in decline and hoping he can somehow revive that early promise with a good midfield behind him (Miller).

In almost all cases, it's a good negotiating position to hold fire for both club and player. We could bring in a player as a gamble just now, but there will still be a player we can gamble on at the deadline. It makes sense to hold off and give yourself the best chance of grabbing a player who falls into the second category.

Interesting one. Ex-teammate of Abdul Osman. He was on trial at Kilmarnock at the end of January but moved to Crawley. I watched a quick video of his 2012/13 goals for Crewe and he seems like a poacher, heading/firing in shots from the edge of the six yard box plenty of times.

'Big, strong and knows where the goal is' wrote a Crewe fan who wanted him back when he was available in February (on a forum). A quick twitter search of his name just has a bit of ridiculing about him being shite compared to his brother, so hard to gauge a true reaction...

Mickael Mandron in talks over loan move according to Twitter

played the second half vs us last summer. can't remember him standing out, but guess archie has been keeping tabs on him since, if the twittersphere is right.

his first team stats (three sunderland appearances, zero goals, fourteen loan appearances with two clubs and one goal, all spread over three seasons) don't give much indication of his abilities, but at only twenty, most of his game time will have been development and reserves with sunderland, so likely archie has had the scouts tracking him?
