Morton at home

Recommended Posts

Graham's goal came from an unexpected long-distance shot. Otherwise, the team has been very predictable and has made many mistakes (e.g. giving away possession) as well as letting scoring opportunities pass.

Phew. Well done to the lads. Not been an easy few weeks but good to see BBG, Robbo and Muirhead lead is onto victory.

Never really in doubt, even when we lost the late goal.

Good to get back to winning ways.

A deserved and badly needed win. Hopefully paves the way for more going forward and builds confidence. Robinson was outstanding and McBeth ran him close for MoTM, but every player worked their socks off.
Thought the defence had too much to do in the last 20 mins, too many hurried and misplaced passes in the middle of the park gave possession straight back to Morton. Something still to be worked on. Also some questionable decision making in the final third, two glaring ones from Fitzy and another from Zander, but delighted to get the win which in the end is all that matters. Well done to the players and the manager.

Much better today.

McBeth has a real dig about him and slotted in to the defence brilliantly. Muirhead’s best game for a while as well, two brilliant blocks.

Graham and Robinson are a great partnership, both well taken goals were the least they deserved.

Morton are dreadful and we let them off the hook with some terrible decision making on the counter by Fitzy and Mackenzie. I think Zander got caught in two minds but it led to the Morton goal so hopefully a learning experience for him.

Didnt think our subs helped much or that we needed to make so many. It may have been the plan but Bannigan coming on seemed to coincide with us dropping 30 yards further back. Taking Neilson off was also a mistake in my opinion. Yes, he was on a yellow card but losing his height against their set piece was costly.

Still, plenty of positives and much needed win. Good to see wee Dougie lose his head at the guy behind the dugouts as well!

Good performance & nice to be able to enjoy a Saturday night!

McBeth excellent & we probably should’ve scored a couple more.

Morton honking - the long throw thing really bugs me. Surely we could’ve weighed the advertising boards down with some breeze blocks or something?

To cap it all off, won 2nd prize in the half time draw, so get to attempt the crossbar challenge soon! 😂

Well deserved win. Graham took his goal well. McBeth did really well at centre half, unlucky not to get a clean sheet as we stood up well to their long throw tactic. Strapp wanted to dismantle the advertising boards every time he took a throw. Hope this win gives us confidence and we keep in 3rd place.

That was a satisfying win today. There was a lot of emotion in the stands today and a lot of standing ovations. I though BBG and Robinson were outstanding today. McBeth was immense, as was McInroy. Nice to have a win to celebrate for a change on a Saturday night. Hic.

Mcinroy was shite, as usual, imo.

More comfortable win than the score suggested - Zander should have played McMillan in for 3-0 and we conceded immediately after.

Not sure what to make of the team or this League - we were schooled by Dick Campbell's Arbroath at Firhill and we haven't looked markedly better than any opposition...or inferior to Dundee United or Raith in the last week. For weeks, I have been sure that we will be beaten in the play-offs by the Greenock ruffians but they were abysmal today with nothing to offer but long throws.

I will put some of the awful passes, crosses & shots down to the dreadful playing surface with Fitzpatrick looking particularly uncertain. McBeth looked the part in central defence & Robinson showed remarkable energy.

Well done today much better all round. Regarding the subs Doolan did this in the playoffs last year too..bringing on Bannigan with 20- 30 mins to go when we're cruising , messing up the balance of the team and then we're on the backfoot from there. Seems to be sticking with it though. Hopefully it doesn't cost us at somepoint

Good to get the win. Morton are so one dimensional, although it's been working for them.

Performance was good enough and thankfully the pitch wasn't quite as bad as I was expecting. We should start to see it improve now, which will hopefully help Fitz and Stevie.

I'm going against the grain here - but that was a poor performance by a team that could and should be doing much better against such poor opposition. Winning by 1 goal in three isn't nearly good enough, and only by dint of a good save did we not come away with another draw after going 2 up.

<rant> This passing along the back line is wasting time that should be spent getting the ball up the park to where it threatens the opposition, among our most effective players, the goal scorers. Instead, our heroes seem to suffer from the delusion that they're displaying the talents of Real Madrid to the yokels and wearing them down: sorry, boys, but you aren't at that level - not even in work rate, and it shows in the huge number of goals you concede. Yet another clean sheet thrown away today.

As for throw-ins, we shouldn't complain about the opposition being smarter, but learn from them: why don't we use long throw-ins? Is none of these players capable of throwing a ball into the box or, for that matter, to one of our own players? By all appearances, that is the case. There certainly doesn't seem to be any work on throw-ins during training, let alone thought given to the most common set piece in the game. :wall:

Fitzgerald is obviously crocked but is still being played although he's slower than usual and in discomfort, if not pain. Why isn't he being given time to recover?

We and everyone else in the division knows that this team is suspect when high balls come into the box, but instead of ensuring there's an out ball (!) and breaking quickly to relieve the pressure, which they showed today they're capable of, they cling on to the ball in defence, allowing the opposition to get organised for the oh-so-predictable attack down one wing, followed by the cross in. As for free kicks into the box and corners.... Why bother? No imagination; no speed; only Robinson and Graham seem prepared to pounce on opportunities as they occur. (Since the game against ICT, Robinson has provided much-needed tenacity in the centre.)

As for bringing has-been Bannigan on... Well, he conceded a needless free kick and the team conceded a goal after that subsitution: enough said.

Our defence is still honking, despite finally arriving at a centre-back pairing that seems effective. Why? Because both full-backs think they're really wingers born in the wrong bodies (or something like that).  After all this time, Milne still can't trap for toffee, and McMillan regularly gets stranded upfield while the opposition breaks - leaving Lawless to fill in at right-back. Both full-backs also need to be made aware that they should - must - be able to play with either foot, or be caught out time and time again.

We played well.  Should have been more up before their equaliser with bad decisions by Fitzy and McKenzie.

I really don't like all these subs at the end where we finish with a team far weaker than the one we start with.  Their goal gave me the heebie jeebies which lasted a short time thankfully with the full time whistle coming quickly.

If Robinson stays fit and gets a run of games I think he will become a very important player for us in the run in.

We midd Bannigan in the midfield IMHO. He can help keep possession and impact the pace of the game.

Think you are very much against the grain....we are not a top class team, which is why we are in the division we are in. If we were to eradicate all of the mistakes you outline....we would in fact be Man City. FTR despite what you said we did play some decent football at times on a pretty tricky surface. Try and enjoy the win....
