Alan Hansen In Hospital

A wonderful player for us and of course outstanding for Liverpool. Cool, effortless style, a real joy to watch. If memory serves me right he scored a penalty against Rangers at Firhill in a game we win 4.3, although I think we were 4.1 up at one point. Broke my heart when he inevitably left.
Think it was seeing his brother win the cup with us that persuaded him to drop the golf clubs and play football!
Hopefully the big man recovers.

The single most talented Partick Thistle player I have ever seen - even as a gangly youth he was remarkable.
He had to leave to further his career and he fully fulfilled his early promise.
Sincerest hopes that he gets well again.

As an aside the penalty quoted earlier - it was in a 4-3 win against that opposition, but if I remember correctly the scoring went 1-0; 1-1; 2-1; 2-2; 2-3; 3-3; 4-3. It was in the 86th minute and was his first penalty for the club needless to say it was converted nervelessly.

Majestic player. I was fortunate to catch approximately a season of seeing him play for Thistle. Really hope he pulls through. Thoughts very much with him and his whole family.

John and Alan's careers may have diverged, but they always both come across as pleasant, talkative and humorous, suitably modest and appreciative of all that football and life in general has brought them.

That was a different game where we 4-1 up & it ended 4-3. Alan definitely equalised then scored the winning penalty. I was behind the goal for both

Ah the days when beating the two other big teams in Glasgow wasn’t uncommon! Your memory is better than mine. I’ve just checked my club history book and big Alan’s two goals in a 4.3 win was March 1977, which wouldn’t be long before he left. The other 4.3 win was May 1980.

I was at this game and I think we had just signed Dixie Dean's who was sitting in what is now the Colin Weir Stand.

There was a horrendous wind blowing from the City end. We were 2-1 up at HT  and I recall thinking it wasn't enough and we were going to get murdered in the second half as Rangers would be playing with the wind.  In the second half Hansen, who was playing in midfield, dominated and was a constant threat  breaking forward and causing havoc in the Rangers defence. It was a tremendous team and individual performance.

One of the memories I have of this game was being verbally abused by a passing Rangers fan. I was standing in the North Terracing after the final whistle letting the crowd depart when one of a small group of passing Rangers fans had a go at me for supporting the Jags instead of following Rangers. I recall he accused me of being  "half heart"!

His pals quickly grabbed him and pulled him away from me before things got-out of hand. One of his pals apologised for his fellow Gers supporter's behaviour and  said of Hansen - what a player we have and hoped Rangers would sign him!

Glad to say Alan had more sense than that.

Great player and really nice man. Proud he was a Jag.
