Jaggernaut
QP's highlights now up on Youtube: Nobody seems to have mentioned the absolute defensive catastrophe by QP that led directly to our first goal. Ferrie is an excellent keeper, but that disaster illustrates perfectly why defenders and their keeper should not dick around with useless backwards and sideways passes in or around their penalty box when there are opponents close by. Jag
Really good victory last night. The game was a bit stop start at times but I thought we were in control for most of it. The GK hasn't really been tested yet as far as shot stopping goes but, as I said last week, there hasn't ever been a keeper at Firhill as good with the ball at his feet as Budinaukas. This is what allows the back three to be a bit more brave on the ball - as Mark Wilson pointed out. Fans will need to get used to this and be patient. The days of constantly hoofing aimless balls up the park seem to be gone. The defence will go long when they have to, but it is good to see that we are comfortable enough, trying to create space in midfield and beyond. I'd like to see the build up to Brian Graham's glancing header again, the one from Josh Reid's cross in first half. There were several passes in defence before the chance was created. Great goal from Chalmers, so difficult to take the ball on the up like he did. I thought it helped settle us as well, good to score early. Bannigan was great yet again and unlucky not to score. He was even more unlucky to get booked, for not committing a foul. Back three were great, probably a bit unfair to single one out. Brian Graham good again. Fantastic ball from Kyle Turner for Chalmers at second goal. Really pleased for Jak as well. Some of the comments on social media when he signed were a disgrace. Many, many positives to take. On the referee - If he deems the handball by Ben Stanway against Falkirk a penalty, yet the one last night by QP defender not - he is either incompetent or dishonest. A horror performance again. Really huge test this weekend now. We need to see where we are at against the better sides, if we are going to do anything in the play offs. In the fifteen games this season against the current top six we have won just once - a very lucky late penalty against Saturday's opponents Ayr United. A big performance would prove to ourselves that we can compete, while also creating a little bit of worry amongst the teams above us that 'Play Off Thistle' are coming again. Not that I'm getting carried away...

Thanks for putting the highlights up, Jaggernaut. They represent an accurate reflection on the game. I was in line with the offside goal and thought it was a very close call. Seeing it again it looks like the linesman got it right. About the only thing he did get right. In previous games against us Ferrie would've got away with his blunder. No central midfielder would've been pressurising him. That would've been left to Chalmers who in turn probably wouldn't have been in a position to receive the ball. Credit to Graham for his assist and Chalmers for his great goal but also some credit is due to Crawford for rushing Ferrie into his error. exiledjag
I think the team looked a lot fitter and moved a lot quicker. I hope to manage to get to Firhill for the Raith game but wish the team all the best for Ayr. Great performance last night.
Thistle88
I can’t be the only one that thinks our work rate has went up a considerable rate in the last 2 games? And we also look far more organised? Chalmers seems to be better playing more central, I’ll admit I wasn’t convinced by him at all. I was actually whinjing about him at one point but I’m always happy to be proven wrong. Thought the Queen’s Park keeper was very shaky last night. Oh and I also moaned about us signing Jakubiak, but he actually really does offer us something different. So far he’s done really well. Budinauckas.. was it his dad that was terrible at kicking the ball out aswell? 😂. I can’t remember if it was him or Big Kenny Arthur. laukat
Thought that was really comfortable last night. We started off with an aggressive press of their back 3 which results in the goal but had to adapt when Martin went off as it took Turner a bit to find his position. Could do with getting Martin fit as he gives us bite in midfield. There was a small period in the first half were Queens forced a block and corner and looked like they were coming into the game. What was noticeable was when one of the Queens players was down injured Wilson and Graham had a wee discussion and we change the press to allow the central Queens Defender to have the ball, limit their ability to go wide and press the midfield receiver which forced them to go long and made it comfortable for us. So fair play to them for being so tactically aware. The surface seemed to be slowing the ball and slowing the game. It was noticeable how much it was watered at halftime and I suspect the grass needs a cut but the SFA won't do that with an international fixture in a couple of weeks. As others have said the ref was baffling. However he was joined in his incompetence by the nearside assistant referee. I can see that the ref might not be able to see the defender using his arm late in the second half but the assistant is looking right at it. His offside calls were bizarre and if they are no longer linesman then they need to earn their money as assistant referee's by getting involved in decisions. Chalmers goal was great technique and he's really starting to show the ability we thought he had. Great to see Jakubiak get a goal and get the monkey off his back. Might just be me but one of his problems previously was he was always out wide and not in and around the 6 yard box enough to score, when he came on last night he very much stayed around that area so perhaps he has worked on his game? Also worth mentioning Bannigan's efforts. He finally got forward and took a shot! If he could do that more often I might change my opinion on him. Hampden for a crowd of less than 1800 is not a great atmosphere, however the view from the back of tour section and with the padded cinema style seats was pretty decent. Bad decision follows bad decision and he certainly likes to draw attention to himself. Looking at his history he appears to have been fast tracked into reffing in the top tier never mind at our level. Only two seasons ago he was mainly reffing League Two matches. last season mostly League One. This season more than a fair share of Premier games. Why and how your guess is as good as mine? Two seasons ago he must have been going for a record of sorts. Somehow he managed to dish out 11 reds and 97 yellows in only 23 games! And they actually promoted the clown. partickthedog
When at the game last night, I thought that Yak's goal was a simple tap in, due to the quality of Chalmers' cross. Looking at the highlights, while the cross was still perfect. Yak had a bit left to do to tuck it past the keeper, and it was a very tidy finish. Woodstock Jag
As others have said, the harrying from Crawford to force the error for the first was really pleasing to see, but Chalmers still had a lot of work to do to get the shot away as well as he did. Really pleasing performance. You can see the confidence returning to some key figures in recent games.

Third Lanark
Does anyone know what the status is of Baudinakus, is he signed up to Rangers for several years or is he a free agent at the end of this season. When called upon he has did well, possibly as important a signing as Myles Roberts has been and we are obviously going to need a couple of goalkeepers for next season

jagfox
It won't go down in the annals of great Partick Thistle victories but it was one of our most comfortable of this season. Defensively we gave QP nothing and the defence seems settled and the Scottish pler had a good shift. The back line seems more confident in Budd 2.0 even though he's not had much to do in the way of actual saves. Crawford did well withbhis pressing and set the trap for Ferrie to mispass out to BBG who put in a decent ball which was controlled and finished with aplomb by Chalmers. Credit to Logan, for me he's gone from zero to hero but there were mitigating factors behind his slow start. Sorry to see Martin go off but Turner did fine when he came on. BBG had a good shift as usual and Jak did well for his goal and kept the Spiders defenders on their toes. A timely win and let's me think we can maybe build a bit of momentum going into the playoffs (hopefully). I'd assume a similar lineup on Saturday as Ayr have been playing 3 at the back on occasion and it would be nice to put a stick in the spokes of their title challenge. Onwards and sideways. C'mon the Jags.

Hopefully he can recover over the summer and get back playing next season. Got to be honest mate and giving his injury record at previous clubs I’m wondering if Doolan erred in giving him a 2 year contract and should have made it 1 year with option to extend. I’m also wondering how much we can rely on him to be fit for next season. Hindsight if of course a wonderful thing, so far it’s looking to me similar to given Wasiri an unnecessary 2 year deal a bit of a waste of money
