West Ender 55 Report post Posted March 11, 2020 So, what happens if they shut down the season because of COVID 19? Three options Games played behind closed doors (televised?). Games played after emergency over. (Probably mean running into the summer) Just stop league now, maybe finish cup games later (we're relegated) Any other options?

It was all just a dream, for us Thistle fans a nightmare. I really don't like the idea of playing behind closed doors. I know they are doing that in Europe, but competitive sport is all about having an atmosphere which the fans play a big part in creating. Behind closed doors there is not any atmosphere and is worse than a friendly.

Barney Rubble 808 Report post Posted March 11, 2020 (edited) Don't care if they abandon the season at the highest levels: UEFA 2020, UEFA Champions League, Serie A, La Liga, Bundesliga, Ligue 1 could all take the economic hit, and it will be a major hit if it happens. Clubs at our level though - closed doors and no cashflow means death by the end of the originally projected season. We do do not have the reserves to take a hit until the beginning of next season. Even Sevco (and this is a serious point on that midden for once) would struggle badly without the cashflow from home games - they need that short-term inflow of cash to keep them afloat. Football (and concerts) has been way overpriced for too long - closed doors may bring some reality back. Barney Rubble 808 Report post Posted March 11, 2020 Just now, One t in Scotland said: They can bin that now - a tournament with hundreds of thousands of fans criss-crossing Europe for a month? No chance. Yep. UEFA are hanging off abandoning the play-offs this month until they absolutely have to. Next Thursday is the latest they can make a decision, and if it involves the abandoning of play-offs then the UEFA 2020 tournament is toast.
One t in Scotland 145 Report post Posted March 11, 2020 Slovakia v. Ireland already closed doors. Scotland game a stick-on for the same I would say.
javeajag 833 Report post Posted March 11, 2020 It’s highly likely that games behind closed doors will be introduced in 2/3 weeks at the latest whether matches can go ahead at all is now the question

Colognejag 28 Report post Posted March 11, 2020 You guys are probably 10 days behind us. Games here now behind closed doors. That’s all well and good. Problem is when players or staff get infected. Games simply can’t take place. High likelihood leagues will be declared null and void. We escape relegation, DABs have another year in the championship and best of all a TIMPLOSION!!! banderas 37 Report post Posted March 11, 2020 sorry folks , don't want to minimise the seriousness of the situation with that Picture , some of my relatives in Italy haven't seen this sort of stuff since 1938 and this sort of pressure over here makes the villagers go for their pitch forks , most of which are .45 caliber. If the club asked for donations to help out, I would donate. Appreciate not everyone could though...
banderas 37 Report post Posted March 11, 2020 seems the 250 rule is being adopted world wide ; Houston rodeo cancelled , Seattle, any event over 250 in attendance cancelled , NBA , Lakers closed court games, being American they are very wary of the lawsuits if their events are deemed to be a point of mass transmission. Italian medical personnel are having to make some heart breaking decisions due to overwhelming numbers and running out of resources. Even the American carrier airline industry here is struggling with the side effects not even the contamination rate but because US gov have asked for all passenger manifests with contacts and associations ( like a family traveler account ), which under current EU rules and privacy laws is not allowed , the airlines asked the gov to insure them in the event of lawsuits from non US carriers and nationals who use their services , Till now the US gov has said no and so have the airlines to the gov , so they Gov is going to fine massive amounts for the airlines being obstructive in light of a public health emergency . p.s insurers wont a pay out as it will be deemed an act of God and there fore the only insurance you can get is from National governments . Jaggernaut 1,404 Report post Posted March 11, 2020 Here in Japan concerts, theatres, exhibitions all cancelled, schools closed (though that's supposed to last until just next week), some football matches behind closed doors, baseball matches cancelled (they typically get 50,000 to 60,000 spectators) sumo wrestling tournaments televised live, but not open to public spectators. Some marathons have gone ahead, others have been cancelled. For several weeks only a minority of prefectures had recorded isolated cases of Covid-19; now it's most of the prefectures, though again it's low numbers in most of them. Trains that are normally packed are very quiet, as was the hospital where I had a routine appointment last week. Interesting times.
gianlucatoni 197 Report post Posted March 11, 2020 Italy has apparently implemented a 3 foot gap rule in public - if same was implemented here then no need to close Firhill as there would be plenty space to house our dwindling home numbers - might even open up the bing with appropriately placed deckchairs as a spill over area. Working in the Hospitality industry today and some of the staff are worried about the influx of Leverkusen fans into the City . Why did UEFA deem this acceptable as the seriousness of the situation over in Germany next week means Sevco have to play behind closed doors but allow German fans to fly into our country before that . Absolute madness
banderas 37 Report post Posted March 12, 2020 EL Presidente has declared no travel from Europe to the USA , he defines Europe as everywhere except the UK . go figure . Expect other actions in line with his political views close Mexican borderNBC news -- NBA season suspended (and you think we would have TV contract issues) , close the Canadian border , changes to the political the make up of senate and house, extend presidential election deadlines , changes that a week ago seemed extremist , now considered reasonable and look like assigning dictator powers in ancient Rome . USA has 1 million hospital beds for a country of 350 million , every bed has a price on it , you only get what or if you pay for it even then that's dependent on the state.
