Mention for Ashcroft too whom I thought was brilliant at the back, won everything

Aye, the big man is a solid 8 out of 10 every week, the past few games.

Mate have you ever watched your team win and thought ….

- we were lucky to get three points there

- we need to play better

- that was a poor game

- we really need to improve

I guess not

im very happy we won today but if you think we are going to get promoted playing as we have in the last 12 league games your drugs are working.

If we win every game by one goal then we will get promoted.

Great to see us pick up points when we're not quite firing on all cylinders. Each game we're getting a wee bit better. Going in the right direction with every player putting in a real shift. Think you could put in a good case for a good few re MotM. Robinson caused the Pars problems all game but defensively we were again rather sound. Tho' I was willing the ref to blow his whistle, I actually thought we saw the game out reasonably comfortably.

I know it's only one game but I thought Milne was relatively ineffective going forward. I'd put that down to the absence of Fitzpatrick. Aiden picks up a fair bit of criticism (some justifiable) but perhaps some folk overlook the partnership aspect where he helps Harry in attack.

Exactly this.

Many folks do not appreciate that when Aiden draws defenders towards him, he is creating the avenues of space that Harry has been exploiting so well so far this season.

I don’t really know what some people expect us to play like, given the reality of our situation. Professional football, is only about one thing when it comes down to it, which is basically winning consistently and not conceding shedloads of goals. Playing good football is something that can be built on that foundation. I’ve been going to Firhill since the mid-70s and I can assure you that at the minute we’re not particularly bad. I’m certainly not claiming we’re brilliant, but I can see the bones of a team out there.

Good to hear.

I'll be at the Hamilton game in two weeks and not so long ago was beginning to think it would be a dead rubber.

I'm now thinking we could get ourselves right back into contention for the league title.

It's Falkirk's to lose but if we can get to within 7 points by Xmas, it's game on.

1. Highly unlikely

2. Factually incorrect

There are still 72 points up for grabs.

This means a maximum of 91 points for Thistle.

No team has ever finished 2nd or worse in this league with 91 points.

No team finishing first has ever achieved more than 91 points.

A 91 points total implies Falkirk drop at least 6 points, Ayr at least 9 points and Livi at least 9 points.

Whilst I accept Falkirk could, theoretically, finish on 95 points, denying us the league, it would be one of those freak once in a century scenarios.

Incidentally, 72 points was enough, on its own, to win this league roughly half the time since a 10-team league was introduced.

Would we all like thumping statement wins galore? Sure.

But would we also take 24 more shitey 1-0 wins, all but mathematically guaranteeing silverware?

In a heartbeat.

We will get promoted if we win every game 1-0. Maybe not as champions, but guaranteed via playoffs

The chances of any team getting promoted via the playoffs is very low, it’s not impossible but it’s very difficult.

I'm not sure what you mean about the reality of our situation. What situation? Overspending again on gamble to make the promised land?

I've also been watching Thistle since around then and I have some really bad teams in that time. This team is nowhere near any of them. However, I can't remember being so consistently bored watching us play. I'm not expecting us to go out and perform like world beaters every week but a convincing performance against poor opposition once in a while would certainly be nice.

I'd expect us to play like a team that has the biggest squad in the league and the highest wage bill. This doesn't always equate to being the best team but it does more often than not. I'd expect us to play the way the manager claims we do, with fast, free flowing football. I'd expect us to "protect the ball" like the manager claims we do. I'd expect us to play attacking football, like the manager claims we do, with five wingers at the club to choose from. I'd expect the players to be fit, and not look sluggish every week. I'd expect us to move the ball quicker and not be so pedestrian like in our build up. We are a team that is very hard to break down - and that is a great asset - but overall it's not been pleasing on the eye. Games have rarely (if at all) been exciting and, believe it or not, some of us like to be entertained.

Yes, it looks like we are getting marginally better each week and I live in hope that the players gain confidence and start producing better performances. As last week, I'm delighted with the three points from yesterday's match. However, as I also said last week, it is OK to be happy with the points but still be concerned over the way we are playing.

Kept up my 100% winning streak for East End Park. My only other previous visit was the 4-0 win in Nov 1982 (when Mo Johnston got a couple).

Interesting noticing the remains of the old concrete terracing (at end of the north stand)

That is an entirely different debate. As far as I can follow it (and I am not going back through all the posts to check) this particular debate was as regards whether we would be promoted if from now on we won every game 1-0. The answer appears to be Yes. We would either be champions or at worst in the play offs. Thereafter if we win each game 1-0, we will win each 2 legged play-off 2-0 and be promoted.

Therefore I believe that the basic premise is established. As to whether that is likely to happen, that is a totally different matter.

Think that's making it extremely tough on the defence. Plus I expect more from our attackers. Let's win the occasional game 4-3 or 3-2 with a sprinkling of 2-1s along the way.👍

Ashcroft looked a class above anything else on the pitch yesterday.

I thought some of the way we knocked the ball about first half was very decent. Once we went ahead I thought there was more a game plan to go long, pack the bodies into the defensive 3rd and ask Dunfermline to play through us knowing they just didn't the threat to do that.

Its quite a departure from Doolan's comments that we only know one way of playing and commitment to entertainment however winning this league is more often than not about having the best defence not the best attack.

I think we could start to move up a gear once Lawless returns as it puts proper competition for the 2 wing positions assuming Chalmers and Fitzpatrick are available.

Falkirk are riding the crest of the wave just now and I find it hard to believe they will continue in that form for the remainder of the season. In saying that there next 2 games are Airdrie and Morton at home so not sure I see them dropping anything in either of those unless Imrie can turn yesterdays spanking into a call to arms.

It was Falkirk who administered yesterday's spanking, so they don't have Morton at home any time soon.

Falkirk at home to Airdrie then away to Livvy & QP. The away games might give us a clue as to whether they can keep up their form. If they win both I think they’ll be pretty unstoppable for the rest of the season. Even if they drop points they are very strong favourites to be champions. They’re a very good team that’s for sure
