Airdrieonians have done bloody well this season. I'll get the platitudes out the way early haha.

Big game in terms of league placing and by default the order of the games in the playoffs.

We are back on a reasonable level of form, Airdrie have average away form so hillopefully we can give the ML6 Schutzstaffel a going over tomorrow.

Not heard team news yet but would be good to have Banzo, O'Reilly and Robbo back in the mix

Not sure if playing at home first or second in the playoffs will make much difference so I will just go for a morale building victory.

None of this FDR vs GDR World Cup shenanigans.

Mon the Jags. **** Airdrie.

I do agree with the sentence I have underlined. Nevertheless, however morally and competitively bankrupt it might be, there is at least a stateable case for "agreeing a draw" tomorrow, so that both teams are securely in the play offs, and then both teams are free to go at it if they so wish in the 2 subsequent league fixtures with a view to securing third place.

I do not personally agree with this suggestion, but I can understand why some might regard that as a reasonable course of action (or inaction!).

There will be no agreement as such but I would not be surprised if the sides are level come the end of play tomorrow.

A win bonus is a big incentive at this level and we will be in the playoffs with a win or a draw so I am confident the players and management will be doing their best to secure the 3 points.

Think there's a fair possibility that we'll draw tomorrow. By that I don't mean both teams will play out a draw, just these sort of games tend to drift towards stalemate. The so very likely fact that this is the first of three games against each other kinda negates things. Maybe tho player bonuses will counter that and it'll be more a battle than I expect.

I see this game very differently from much of the above.

I think Airdrie are in a much better place than we are. They are playing well and have some momentum. On the other hand we are a bit in and out of form, playing great stuff in patches and drawing as many games as we are winning. I don't think we have the same 'buzz' about us as Airdrie.

I suspect Airdrie will smell blood and go for it. We may well end up with a draw but it will be a hard fought draw with the Jags, perhaps holding on at the end.

Two wins v Airdrie and Ayr and 3rd place will be ours.  If the Jags Team I love and cherish turns up we can do this but I feel the long injury list is starting to make an impact.

I wany and hope for two wins but.........!

The main difference in form was over 5 matches ago. In the past 5 games, the've the best form (12 points from 15) and we've the second best (11 points). Our form was very different to theirs prior to the past 5, granted.

They have won their last 4, mind you.

The infamous World Cup match was actually between West Germany & Austria and ended 1-0 for the Germans...which conveniently enabled both nations to qualify from the group. The Referee was Bob Valentine from Dundee who should have booked every player - later in the tournament he was the linesman who failed to spot Schumacher's assault on Battiston.

I heard Craig Levein who was Hearts captain at the time recently recalling a pre-game discussion with Thistle captain Willie Jamieson before the final match of the season where they agreed a draw would be a good result as both clubs would then avoid relegation...but Alan McLaren of Hearts didn't get the message and scored a late winner...we stayed up on goal difference.

A win for Thistle tomorrow would be a very good result...it would help clinch third place with the additional prize money, give a psychological edge and mean the second leg of the playoff would be at Firhill...only statistical pedants aren't sure that Thistle v Airdrie will be the teams in the play-offs.

Apparently O’Reilly,Robinson and Bannigan are all back in the squad, although I wouldn’t be surprised if Doolan goes with the same starters as last week.

If Robinson is fully fit, I can see him starting. I would expect that O’Reilly and Bannigan will be on the bench with the hope that they can come on later.

But who would you drop for Robbo ? Xander or McInroy would be the obvious, but both had decent games at Raith so would be harsh

Absolutely agree that it would be harsh, but a fit and firing Robinson is one of our best players who could be vital in such an important game. I suppose that Zander would have to make way, but he should get some significant game time later, as both Robinson and McInroy tend to fade after an hour.

I would start the same and bring on a fresh Robbo after an hour to have a go against tired defenders

Robinson hasn't been out long enough to need a game, even a run out. So he can be omitted even if fully fit should Doolan be looking at the big picture*. I'm thinking Doolan will prefer to keep the usual starting formation, and I sense without Stevie he'd prefer to start a natural leftie somewhere up the park. So that would mean McInroy plays either centrally or out on the right. As said Zander did well enough at Starks to merit retaining his place. However what's unknown to me is just how effective Kerr would be as a direct replacement for Lawless and how much Doolan want's us to retain our default formation.

*My guess is we'll get this game out the way before we start to prioritise the play offs.

Massive today and I do think we could still need that point, as I'd take Dunfermline to win their last three games.

We don't want to go in to Utd's flag game needing anything on the last day.

Thoughts at the minute though, should be fixed on attaining 3rd place and the positives that come with that.

Probably take a draw today but a win get's us in a more positive place for the upcoming play offs.

Mon The Jags.

My fag packet calculation is statistically 1/1000 likelihood of us not being in the playoff.

But I don't smoke, so..

History says that statistics become meaningless when it comes to Thistle. The more unlikely a thing is the more likely Thistle will do it.

Fair comment, and Zander does give the team better balance if he plays wide. Both Robinson and McInroy are better central, McInroy for his accurate shooting from distance, and Robinson just being generally busy, winning balls in the air against taller defenders and being nimble and quick to react in the box. Starting to argue against myself now, so happy to leave the call to the manager!
