Mitchell and Alston must surely sign up

Would be great to see McMillan next year but highly doubt it.

Makings of a decent squad to come back to after the break.

Has to get the recruitment right and so far Doolan has been good in that area so I’d be pretty positive.

Strange one Sneddon leaving, did not expect that..

I really like Jamie, but I think that moving on is right for him and us. He has been given plenty of opportunity and has generally done well but has never quite attained that level of consistent reliability to establish himself as undisputed Number 1.

If he had stayed, I think that he would have begun the season as Number 2 to David Mitchell or whichever new keeper we bring in. At this stage in his career, Jamie needs a solid season of playing every week. That may mean a sideways or small step down move.

I wish him very well and hopefully he will move up in his career again, perhaps back to Thistle!?

i was in the perfect place to track his movement and header at Cove and for that alone he will never be forgotten!

Imo sometimes fans overlook how important the goalie is. I remember reading an article in the 70's that said Alan Rough was worth about 14 points a season to Thistle. Also for me Dabrowski showed how important he is for Raith Rovers, anytime i watched Raith Rovers on the Friday night game i can't remember him making any mistakes and against us he pulled of a few good saves that would have seen us winning if he hadn't. It also brings confidence to the defenders if they know the last line of defence is in with a chance of saving any effort on goal. For me Mitchell is ok as back up, but if we did get another keeper not sure we need 3 on the books.

Strange. I had a different view of Dabrowski. He made some great saves, but couldn’t hold onto the ball. I thought he was very lucky that it always fell to a Raith player rather than. a Jag. Gave away some unnecessary corners.

I sometimes wonder why Mitchell doesn't get as much credit for the improvement in our defensive performance this season, as McBeth does. The changes were made at much the same time. Mitchell also distributes the ball reasonably well, in comparison to Sneddon at least, and was in goal during our playoff run last season.

Not sure we will do much better - I'd be happy for him to sign as genuine contender for no 1 jersey.

Always thought it strange that no one one really came in for Roughy in all the years he was with us , you don't have nearly 50 caps for your country and nobody wants you,,, strange one..

Manchester City and also rumours of Liverpool. Maybe even Middlesbrough. But could  be mistaken. Heard this from Bertie Auld on the very old PLZ or whatever it was called a number of years ago

I suspect the problem with Mitchell is that being a 'safe' keeper he doesn't or isn't able to make the saves that Sneddon can make so doesn't get the same headlines. Although Mitchell is not immune to the odd mistake his are not as obvious as Sneddon's. There is also the keeper's impact on the defence to take into account. I would say Mitchell's calm and steady attributes seem to give the defence more confidence than Sneddon's more inconsistent and possibly erratic phases. Although I think we should persevere with Sneddon I would say give me a safe keeper any day.

Roughy was my hero back then and my whole family often spoke about him in glowing terms.

Think he had a pub called The Camp Bar on the Garscube Road that my Granda, Dad and Uncle's frequented.

Don't know about Man City or Liverpool but Middleborough were definitely interested in Rough. I recall negotiations were at an advanced stage and I was waiting on the announcement that Rough had signed for Middlesborough when it was announced they had decided to go for Jim Stewart of Kilmarnock instead. It was in my opinion a disgraceful way to do business and Rough must have been very disappointed.

I have never forgiven that club for the way they treated Alan Rough and consider their steady demise since as good and deserved karma.

I think we already have the spine of a very strong squad for the Championship. Another 4 or 5 players to take care of the areas where we are weak(est), and we should be able to put in a stronger and more consistent challenge next season.

ETA: On the topic of goalkeepers, over the past couple of seasons I've been impressed with Arbroath's, Gaston.

You’re probably right on Middlesbrough. I’m sure Wee Bertie mentioned Man City as well. Happy to be corrected as the memory is not as good as it was. And Jim Stewart couldn’t lace Roughie’s boots

Corner of Garscube Road and Camperdown Street (hence the original name).

Indeed. Think it was known at one time as the Camperdown Bar. Then more correctly known then known as the New Camp Bar. I guess to avoid confusion as there already was a Camp Bar down in Cowcaddens.

Am I correct in thinking Alan Rough's lookalike brother was a chargehand when it was the Goalpost? Seem to remember he was getting miffed about being confused with Roughie.

Also think there may have been "complications" over the running of the Goalpost with a well known "Glasgow Businessman" sticking his oar in.

I believe Dowds, Mitchell and some others are represented by the same agent. I can’t remember his name but he was involved with us and then had a fall out. He was doing a bit of bad mouthing about Dowds being sent on loan. I wonder if this could impact Mitchell’s position?

If we lose Mitch I like the big keeper at Ross C, Laidlaw. Not sure if he’d be available. He was 2nd choice for a lot of the season but has been back in goal recently.

Should this not be the Nou Camp?

Harry Milne has the same agent and he still signed a new contract
