Livvy v Jags

League is done, not sure after our start we ever stood much chance. The slim chance we had was given away tonight and I wouldn’t fancy our chances against Livi or Falkirk in the playoffs.

We’ve got a large budget for this league but our recruitment has been really poor. Milne getting injured last week was a disaster, he is pretty much a one man attack.

Far too many similar midfielders signed, no serious back up to Graham and a winger who knows he’s guaranteed a game regardless of how poor he is.

I don’t think Falkirk or Livi are that great but they work extremely hard, know their roles and tactics. We do the same thing every week, if it doesn’t work we’ll just keep doing it and hope we get a bit of luck.

We got it last week with the penalty or else that could have easily been a 0-0 as well.

He will be under no pressure whatsoever but to be out of winning the league at the beginning of December with the budget he was given us disgraceful from Doolan.

Of course we have a chance with the playoffs but in terms of winning the actual league that’s surely it

Can't see us doing anything in the playoffs. Falkirk and Livingston have been the better teams in the games against us.

We played like it was an ice-bound pitch...Livy skated past us - quicker, stronger, better passing and reduced us to punting long balls which their defenders dealt with easily. Some very ordinary performances with the rest below that...did Crawford actually contact the ball during the game? Bannigan again our entire midfield.

We're not catching Falkirk or Livy...we've been a team without any spark all season...and we've been a pretty tedious watch. It doesn't look like our budget has been well spent with the season over before Christmas.

Difficult to assess this game other than say we were rubbish. There has to be reasons for this though and I think we all know what they are. We are playing without a midfield and I don't know where we find one. Admittedly I was watching the game on TV but from what I could see frequently there was a big hole in the middle of the park with no jags players visible.

I know I will be in the minority and old fashioned but I think we need to change our system and play 433 or 442 and field 'recognised' midfielders. We might get away with our current system of attacking down the wings  against the lesser teams but against the better sides the game is won and lost in midfield and we have been lacking there going back even to the days of Ian McCall. Once we get our financial position sorted we really need to find a creative and combative midfield preferably with some physical prowess. I would just love to see a game where the Jags control the midfield. Role on next season (in the championship).

Meant to add: if ever there was a case for banning artificial playing surfaces in the Premier League and Championship you only need to look at tonight's surface. It looked awful with even the Livingston players stumbling and adjusting to the unpredictable bounce and roll of the ball. I think this gave Livingston a big advantage. To be honest though I don't think we could beat them at Firhill as the moment.

You're clutching at straws.

Livingston's major advantage tonight is that we were absolutely honking.

That had absolutely nothing to do with the surface.

Absolutely bullied off the park. You got to wonder do we send someone to look at the opposition before we play them mens against boys .all night.  Our two wingers were defending in our own 18 yard box at one time. Plays off our only chance.  Hopefully we can get some quality in January

Livingston are a far more effective working unit and I wouldn’t fancy our chances in a playoff with them. We are always bullied by them going back to our Scottish cup defeat last season. We don’t appear to have the physicality to deal with it which is a poor reflection on recruitment.

We clearly miss Milne (not criticising Sawyers as he will need a couple of games to get up to speed, indeed he showed he can deliver an effective cross), and Megwa would allow Turner to play further forward and maybe MacKay will add pace, but I doubt we’re really missing the rest (Lyon, Mackenzie, Stanway, Muirhead, Nilsson). The jury is out on Ablade until he gets more game time. But if we want to push for 3rd or better we need to strengthen. Too add - we might need to just to secure 4th.

Not scapegoating Fitzpatrick for tonight’s result but he clearly needs a spell on the sidelines. He contributed virtually nothing tonight, except his lazy contribution to their second goal. By his own admission he is not having a good season. Doolan is doing him and the team no favours by continuing to start him.

I thought like the others Bannigan was appalling.  Most of his passes went to livi players.  Like his team mates flat and absolutely no urgency from him
