jagfox
Oh well, we go again. Couldn't have asked for a tougher game to get back down to league business with. Ayr have had a great start but did draw their last league match. Thistle need to see if we can benefit from another full week of training and see if we can bounce back from the Alloa Debacle. Not checked team news yet there should be a couple of options available to Kris Doolan. Hopefully he can find the right blend to keep things tight at the back and enough creativity from out wide or through the midfield to grab a goal or two. Somerset Road has notbeen too bad a hunting ground recently so hoping for back to back league wins to put memories of last week to the back of my mind. C'mon the Jags! jagfox
Robinson out but the rest of the shorter term injured are available for duty. Lee Ascroft had his stitches out and has a broken nose but is available for selection.
watties wallies
robinson out for 2 to 3 weeks foot injury watched brian graham and doolan on jagzone talking about alloa game both commented on lack of intensity in the team having gone ahead then not pushing on maybe the players need the proverbial boot up the you know where professional footballers should always be giving 100% effort hard game tomorrow
Lenziejag
I am actually not that disappointed with our league performances, Morton aside. We lost to Raith and Falkirk, a player down but comfortably beat QP with 11 players on the park. Pressure is on tomorrow, though.
madcapmilkdrinker
This will be my first in-person game for about seven years, and about fifth in total since I first got dragged to a Thistle game by a crazed/far-sighted distant relative in 1975. Since then it's been a mixture of (mostly) spills and (irregular) thrills following Thislte from Australia but I've loved every romantic moment of being a Jags fan. Let's hope I'm a lucky charm. 11

partickthedog
Ablade was the difference maker at Falkirk, rousing both his team-mates and the Thistle fans, and has continued to look sharp in his surprisingly brief appearances since. Therefore I would want to include him from the start, which may mean tweaking the formation. Let me suggest a 4-4-2: Roberts Nilsson McBeth O'Reilly Milne Chalmers Turner Crawford Fitzpatrick Graham Ablade Some might argue for Chalmers and Fitzpatrick to swap sides and play as more orthodox "outside" wingers, rather than cutting inside, and whatever way round they play, there should be scope for changing wings and presenting different challenges to the Ayr defenders. I appreciate that the "LIB tendency" may want a more hard tackling ball winning midfield, but Turner and Crawford did well together against Motherwell and seemed to emerge regularly with the ball, so I will give them the chance to do so again. Lots of options on the bench which I would like to see utilised more quickly, creatively and energetically: Lyon, Smith, Mackenzie, Diack, Stanway, Bannigan etc, and Williams, Muirhead or Ashcroft (nose permitting) good be a good shout late on if Ayr are pumping the ball into the box for the big men. We do seem to score a lot of goals at Ayr, so I am predicting a 3-2 victory, with a total lack of solid evidence to back that up.

I am presuming that Thistle are doing the pumping, before Anton gets some late consolations.
ChiThistle
Suggest we go a 4-2-3-2 with Graham and Ablade upfront and hope the ref doesn’t notice.
CotterJag
Time to go on the run we know we're capable of and get into contention by Christmas. C'mon Thistle.
elevenone
Raith lose the Friday night Fife derby and as title favs now prop up the table with 3 points from 15. (the 3 points from us). Crucial we don’t start get cutting adrift from the leading pack.
Dick Dastardly
My issue with 4-4-2 is that it is taking a player out of a midfield that is not creating any chances for the striker. Taking someone out of there would give less protection for the defence, less possession and fewer chances. Result being 2 guys up front with nothing to do. We need to use that man advantage in midfield better and be more positive. If Fitz is out of form or double marked then attack with other options. We have got players who have done it before at this level. It is attitude and game plan that we need to unleash the potential in this current squad. Mon The Jags.. Single lane for a mile or so just after Kilmarnock and just before the 50mph average speed cameras. Was ok about 30mins ago. That's the A77 but I don't think there's any hold ups on the M77.

Agreed about Ablade-he looked good against Alloa-as usual it was too little too late.
westertonjagfan
I've decided not to go to this away game-we're usually at every game home and away, but I was so scunnered after Alloa that I'm having a break ( mentally as well as financially). I'm hoping today will be one of those games where things fall into place and we go on a run.

Thistle88
Showing a bit of Backbone taking Fitz out, fingers crossed. Looks a bit more of a balanced line up to me. Edited September 14 by Thistle88

What is the line up ? I have no idea. 5 at the back ? McBeth in midfield ?
