Chris Erskine 50Th Goal

It's pretty impressive for a midfielder to rack-up that many goals for one club, and marginally more so for the fact he had a spell at United (2.5 years not here) and that we only signed him at the age of 22.

I guess this probably isn't the case for those who've been following Thistle for decades longer, but he and Doolan have been the most consistently exciting players to watch for those of us who have only been going to Thistle games for the last decade or so. In the much less glamorous years under McCall these were the guys you haulled yourself along to Firhill to watch.

Keep it up, Squiddy.

Well said. Yes, there's of course been exciting players to watch before but in my mind you have to go back many years, decades even.

Perhaps my favourite Chrissy goal was the belter from outside the box to beat Airdrie during our promotion year. We'd tanked them 7-0 in the previous match at Firhill but nothing was going right for us that day till up stepped Erskine.

Was the one that was like an outrageous chip? That was glorious.

Can only agree with everything that has been said on this post. When Chris and Callum visited Robert in the hospital last November they spent over an hour with us and there was never a quiet moment.I know how much the visit meant to Robert.Chris also put the petition about Robert on his Facebook page. When Chris and Callum have finished with football we shall always remember them for this visit.

So many quality goals. Recent one at McDiarmid Park was pretty good. How about the League clincher against Falkirk or the strike against Hibs during his loan spell with us?

And as Auld Jag has said, a quality individual, modest, seff-effacing and willing to have a laugh at himself. Always appreciative of and has time for the fans.

A worthy successor to Denis McQuade, delightfully unpredictable on the pitch, and predictably delightful off it.

Denis was a bit before my time but that line pretty sums him up for me. Probably one of my top 3 favourite Thistle players.

Looking forward to him getting on the same wavelength as Nisbet, Sammon and Storey and we can start moving up the table.

Talk of McQuade reminds me of the "meet the Board/Manager evening" a few seasons ago when Denis was doing his PR/corporate thingy with the Club. I asked him what Jags players he liked watching at the time and he replied along the lines "the new lad Erskine looks the part, reminds me a lot of me". So not just partickthedog, myself and a lot others see the resemblance we got the horse's mouth as well.

A few years back an American asked if he could join my mate and I to play Machrihanish golf course. His name was Bobby Jones ,or as he said it "the other Bobby Jones"Anyway during the game the subject of football came up and we told him we were both Thistle supporters .To our amazement, not only did he know about the Jags,he then told us he used to employ Denis McQuade and spoke highly of him.Think he worked in the Bahamas or some place like that.Small world.

Denis McQuade also known as father McQuade because he thought about becoming a priest but became a footballer instead. He became a computer worker after he hung up his boots and worked in the Bahamas for a few years.Could beat 6 players and then sky it over from a few feet but was also a very good player.

Apologies to Chris for mentioning Denis McQuade who then hijacked the thread! Somehow, I don't think Chris would mind.

I think I was the last person to stop calling Chris "Big Bird".

Can TJR or another statto help with comparative stats re Denis and Chris-games played, goals scored etc? I suspect that they might be quite similar in many respects, but Chris must dominate the sub or be subbed category.

The goal against Falkirk at Firhill was my favourite. It was just kinda beautiful.

The one against Airdrie at Firhill was crucial and an absolute cracker.

The one away at Falkirk to win the league was the happiest moment.

How he didn't win player of the year that season is still beyond me.

McQuade Appearances 331, 90 goals, 1:3.7 appearances. 62 singles, 11 doubles and 2 hat-tricks.

Erskine Appearances 248, 55 goals, 1:4.5 appearances. 37 singles and 9 doubles.

(competitive + friendlies.)

Interesting comparison. Chris still has a bit to do to catch up with Denis's scoring record, even if their styles of play are clearly similar; in fact Chris reminds me of Denis more than any other Jags player since that era.
